Monterey Amberjacks Hold Off Santa Cruz Seaweed 6-5

July 2 2021 The Monterey Amberjacks held off the Santa Cruz Seaweed 6-5 in a nine-inning game at Sollectio Park. Monterey scored three runs in the first inning, added two in the third and one in the sixth to build a 6-3 advantage before Santa Cruz mounted a late challenge.

Santa Cruz scored twice in the sixth, once in the seventh and twice in the ninth. The Seaweed finished with nine hits, led by Edgar Arriola, Tyler Chilton and Michael Green with two hits apiece. Chilton drove in one run, while Dillon Plew and Green also contributed RBIs. Monterey collected nine hits, with AJ Pollack, Jared Fry and Ethan Lopez recording two hits each. Lopez drove in two runs, and Adrian Martinez added two RBIs.

Andrew Polk earned the win for Monterey after allowing five hits and three earned runs in seven innings. He walked six and struck out three. Angel Rodriguez worked a scoreless eighth with two strikeouts, and Javier Rodriguez recorded the save despite allowing two runs in the ninth. Santa Cruz starter Matt Peterson took the loss after giving up eight hits and six runs, four earned, in six innings while striking out six.
