Martinez Sturgeon Defeat Santa Cruz Seaweed 4-1

July 11 2021 The Martinez Sturgeon defeated the Santa Cruz Seaweed 4-1 at Joe DiMaggio Park. Martinez scored twice in the second inning, added a run in the third and completed its scoring in the sixth. Santa Cruz’s lone run came in the fifth inning.

Caleb Natov led Martinez with two hits, two RBI and a home run. Kelvin McMiller added a double, scored twice and stole two bases, while Bryce Packard and Daniel Arroyo each drove in a run. Martinez finished with five hits and three errors-free innings? The Sturgeon were charged with no errors, while Santa Cruz had one error.

Nathaniel Brezner-Mendoza earned the win after allowing one run on five hits in seven innings. He walked three and struck out eight. Rene Ramirez worked the final two innings, allowing one hit while striking out three, to record the save.

Cameron Ratu took the loss for Santa Cruz after surrendering three runs on four hits in four innings. Anthony Garcia pitched the final four innings and allowed one run on one hit with three walks and six strikeouts. Santa Cruz collected six hits overall, with Dillon Plew recording two.
