Monterey Amberjacks Rally Past Santa Cruz Seaweed 7-6

July 17 2021 The Monterey Amberjacks defeated the Santa Cruz Seaweed 7-6 at Joe Bauman Park, overcoming a five-run sixth inning by Santa Cruz to secure the victory. Monterey finished with seven hits and no errors while Santa Cruz had six hits and one error.

Monterey built a 4-1 lead with four runs in the second inning and added single runs in the fifth sixth and seventh. Evan Bacani went 2-for-2 with a double a home run and two RBI, while Jared Fry drove in two runs. AJ Pollack scored twice and stole a base. Santa Cruz scored once in the second before Tyler Chilton powered the offense with two home runs and five RBI. Robbie Carling added three hits including two doubles and drove in one run.

Nick Grimm earned the win for Monterey after allowing one hit and no runs with one walk and one strikeout over 1.1 innings. Brandon Flaherty started for the Amberjacks and allowed six runs five earned on five hits in 5.2 innings while striking out six. Santa Cruz starter Dillon Ponce allowed four runs three earned in two innings, and David Castillo took the loss after giving up three runs two earned in 4.1 innings with seven strikeouts.
